Product Introduction
This Sri Lankan-style ready-to-eat curry is made with coconut milk and based on "Curry no Tsubo," a ready-to-eat curry made without flour, artificial seasonings, or preservatives. This spicy chicken curry combines free-range chicken with onions and coconut milk, finished with a punchy spice. The main ingredient, free-range chicken, is sourced from Sri Lanka. Perfect for a single meal or as a preserved snack. *"Curry no Tsubo" is a flour-, artificial seasonings-, and preservative-free paste curry seasoning that captures the delicious flavor of over 18 spices, herbs, and aromatic vegetables. ~Using Only the Essential Ingredients~ Flour-Free The thickened sauce is made solely from spices and sautéed onions, in a pure Sri Lankan style. No Artificial Seasonings or Preservatives The umami flavor of carefully selected spices and herbs enhances the curry's flavor without the use of artificial seasonings or preservatives. Carefully Selected Ingredients The coconut milk, essential for Sri Lankan curry, is produced in our own factory. Many of the spices and herbs we use are grown and processed on our own farms or by contract farmers. As a new version of our classic product, "Curry no Tsubo," we have developed a ready-to-eat curry that allows you to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan curry more easily by simply heating it up. Producer Mario, inspired by a curry roux he discovered when he visited Japan as a young man, created a paste from a spice mixture. Since Sri Lankan housewives typically grind and fry a variety of spices every day to make curry paste, Mario's paste became extremely popular as it "saves the effort." Mario, who wanted to share Sri Lankan food culture with the world, and I worked with him to create a curry paste that preserves the unique characteristics of Sri Lankan curry while adapting it to Japanese tastes. "Curry no Tsubo" is a ready-to-eat curry based on "Curry no Tsubo," made with carefully selected ingredients and coconut milk. We support producers who are working to solve various local issues, such as promoting employment for local residents and people with disabilities, supporting the independence of small-scale spice farmers, improving working conditions for employees, supporting sustainable agriculture, and promoting employment for former child soldiers and war widows from the Sri Lankan civil war that continued until 2009, thereby contributing to job creation in Sri Lanka. [A Committed Producer] The company was founded in 1986 by CEO Mario and his wife. As of 2016, the company employs over 300 people at its factory and headquarters. Sri Lanka is blessed with an environment that allows it to grow high-quality spices, but the industry has yet to successfully translate this into income for farmers. By supporting the independence of producers, we are working to open up a market directly from rural Sri Lanka to the world. We have been an early adopter of an environmentally friendly and sustainable business model, building factories near raw material production sites to reduce transportation energy and training farmers in organic farming. The factory offers comprehensive employee benefits, including employee housing, a free cafeteria, and recreational facilities, which are rare in Sri Lanka. The company is also actively involved in social projects, including promoting employment for people with disabilities and providing scholarships for employees' children. Mario launched RAPID, a rural spice project in Sri Lanka, in 2000 with the aim of improving the lives of spice farmers and supporting their independence. Led by Mario, RAPID mediated financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and provided agricultural and management expertise. In 2014, the project progressed to the next stage, SAFE NET, where farmers organized and managed the project themselves. Mario supports the project by purchasing the farmers' produce (i.e., raw materials for products). He continues to provide guidance on recording work and materials, as well as accounting. As of 2016, SAFE NET has approximately 150 member spice and coconut farmers. SAFE NET has obtained organic certification and FLO (Fair Trade Labeling Organization) certification.
