Once you start breastfeeding, consume the prepared formula within 1 hour and discard any remaining formula. Formulated milk is not sterile and should not be fed to infants with diagnosed immune problems without the direction and supervision of a health care professional. Talk to your doctor about whether you need to use cooled or boiled water and the need to boil (sterilize) bottles, nipples, and teats before use. After mixing, feed immediately or refrigerate in a sealed container. Consume within 24 hours. Cover opened formula with the plastic lid provided with the can, store in a cool, dry place, and use within 1 month. Store unopened cans of formula at room temperature and avoid extreme hot or cold temperatures. Contents are sold by weight, not volume. Some of the contents may sink.
