A-un is a Buddhist mantra, with A (A) being the first sound made with the mouth open and Un (Un) the last sound made with the mouth closed, and is therefore said to represent the beginning and end of the universe. The "Un Dragon" on the barrel represents a rising dragon, while the "A-no-ryu" on the cap represents a descending dragon. The pen comes in a special "Bikou" paulownia wood box, with a tasteful green painted top cover that contrasts beautifully with the paulownia wood color. It can hold the fountain pen itself and cartridge ink.
